EXT. SPACE, ABOVE PROXIMA B - TWELVE HOURS LATER

The two ships are stationed in orbit high above the graybrown surface of Proxima B. COMM CHATTER is heard between Clarke and Corey as the AeroFox releases a SATELLITE.

VFX

: 035—02

CLARKE (COMM VOICE) " Okay, Jim. Just deployed Sat-B. Two down. One to go. Link when ready. "

VFX

: 035—03

COREY (COMM VOICE) " Copy. Signal’s loud and clear. "

VFX

: 035—04

The AeroFox moves away as SOLAR PANELS unfurl on the satellite.

VFX

: 035—05

It fires thrusters, rotating toward the star.

VFX

: 035—06

The image jumps down to a lower orbit where the AstroBug cruises above the dusty planet. Dyson joins the chatter.

VFX

: 035—07

DYSON (COMM VOICE) " Guys, we have an incoming message from Odyssey. "

: 036—01

INT. AEROFOX

Clarke turns to Dyson who plays with his gyroscope.

: 036—02

[Two Shots of Gyroscope to choose from]

: 036—03

[Two Shots of Gyroscope to choose from]

: 036—04

Dyson taps a few buttons on his console.

VFX

: 036—05

A GRAPHIC pops up showing the star system and the position of their mothership.

VFX

: 036—06

Dyson activates the comm system. An image of the Odyssey MISSION PATCH -- the icon of an ancient sailing ship placed between white and red stars -- appears onscreen.

VFX

: 036—07

The scene jumps to a video of Captain Shepard sitting at his station. Crew members pass behind him, checking systems.

VFX

: 036—08

SHEPARD (ON SCREEN) " We received the message that you settled into orbit. Looks good. "

VFX

: 037—01

EXT. SPACE, ABOVE PROXIMA B

The AstroBug cruises above the planet.

VFX

: 037—02

SHEPARD (COMM VOICE) " We’ll complete our final capture maneuver around Proxima Centauri in about forty-three hours. "

: 038—01

INT. ASTROBUG, COCKPIT

Simultaneously, BAXTER listens in.

: 038—02

COREY (turns, wincing) " I know. Sorry."

: 038—02

SHEPARD (ON SCREEN) " We’ll be thawing out the popsicles as soon as we arrive. We’re going to have a lot of tired and disoriented people on our hands."

: 038—03

BAXTER " ‘Popsicle’. That’s just so stupid. "

: 038—03

Baxter shrugs in frustration. She wears a STIMSUIT -- a tight unitard, the same color scheme as the other uniforms. It features a medical display and electrodes across the body.

: 038—03

As Shepard talks, an annoyed Baxter turns to Corey.

: 038—04

SHEPARD (ON SCREEN) " I just got this from Comms."

VFX

: 038—05

The image splits to reveal an onscreen graphic that shows signals unable to travel between Odyssey and the planet.

: 038—07

The image returns to Shepard by himself.

SHEPARD (ON SCREEN) (CONT’D) " You guys got this."

: 039—01

INT. AEROFOX

Clarke and Dyson listen intently.

VFX

: 039—02

SHEPARD (ON SCREEN) " Jim-bo’s on point. Darcy and Kyle, observe and provide support. Follow Engineer Baxter’s lead. That shield is her design. "

VFX

: 040—01

INT. ASTROBUG, COCKPIT

The onscreen image shifts from the Captain to a MAP of Proxima b.

VFX

: 040—02

It shows an array of interlinked TOWERS spanning thousands of miles across the sunward hemisphere.

VFX

: 040—03

SHEPARD (ON SCREEN) " And, Ms. Baxter, I want to apologize... "

: 040—04

Baxter is startled by the mention of her name as if the Captain personally witnessed her encroaching exhaustion.

VFX

: 040—05

SHEPARD (ON SCREEN) (CONT’D) " I know the past few days haven’t been easy. This emergency forced us to wake you sooner than planned. But I know you. You’ll be fine."

VFX

: 040—06

Shepard switches focus, reinforcing Corey’s orders.

SHEPARD (ON SCREEN) (CONT’D) " Jim’s orders are to keep the mission in orbit. The gravity down there is higher than Earth. I know you aren’t prepared for it. "

: 040—07

BAXTER (under her breath) " You’re telling me."

: 041—01

INT. AEROFOX

As Shepard concludes, Clarke nods her head slowly.

VFX

: 041—02

SHEPARD (ON SCREEN) " That said, if you need to land, do so. Fix that shield and take off as quickly as you can. (smiling warmly) That’s about it. Good luck. I wish I was there with you. Shepard out. "

VFX

: 041—03

The transmission ends.

VFX

: 042—01

Down below, the GEOGLYPHS -- bizarre formations of semi-straight lines radiating across the surface -- slide into view.

VFX

: 042—01

EXT. SPACE, ABOVE PROXIMA B

The AstroBug spins to better observe the planet.

VFX

: 042—02

Vast in scale, they resemble ancient human-made geometrical patterns.

VFX

: 043—01

INT. ASTROBUG, COCKPIT

As the cabin rotates, Corey looks at Proxima b through his forward windscreen.

: 043—02

He’s astounded by the view.

: 044—01

INT. AEROFOX

Dyson fidgets at his keyboard. Blurry planetary formations appear onscreen.

VFX

: 044—02

DYSON " I think this telescope sucks. OH, can you enhance the view? "

VFX

: 044—03

OH " Absolutely. "

: 044—05

Dyson nods and smiles.

DYSON " Thanks, buddy. "

: 044—06

COREY (ON SCREEN) " Still think they‘re made by aliens? "

: 044—07

Clarke interjects before Corey can respond.

CLARKE " We’re not doing this again. "

: 045—01

INT. ASTROBUG, COCKPIT

Baxter is annoyed by the banter.

: 045—02

She gets out of her seat holding an AUTOBREW, a circular coffee decanter, and floats toward the FOOD STATION.

: 045—03

Corey continues the conversation.

COREY " I wanna hear what he thinks. "

: 045—04

Baxter arrives at the station and fills the unit with water.

VFX

: 045—05

DYSON (ON SCREEN) " It’s weird. They look shriveled up."

: 045—06

COREY " Compared to what? "

: 046—01

INT. AEROFOX

Dyson compares the telescope view to SATELLITE PHOTOS.

: 046—02

DYSON " They have to be more than that. "

VFX

: 046—02

DYSON " The old Starshot images."

: 046—03

CLARKE " Guys, they’re mineral deposits! "

: 047—01

INT. ASTROBUG, COCKPIT

Baxter shakes her head as she continues listening in.

VFX

: 047—02

DYSON (ON SCREEN) " They’ve existed next to volcanoes for millions of years without a trace of ash. How? Why? "

VFX

: 048—01

INT. AEROFOX

OH jumps into the conversation, disagreeing with his friend.

OH " I think the fractures were created by statically-charged magma.

: 048—02

DYSON " OH, it’s art! Those are pictograms. Continent-sized graffiti! "

: 048—03

CLARKE " Who made them? There's never been anything alive down there except those weird-ass black plants. "

: 048—04

DYSON " I didn’t say anyone lived there. It’s just a gut feeling."

: 049—01

INT. ASTROBUG, COCKPIT

Fed-up Baxter interjects, tapping the implant on her temple.

: 049—02

BAXTER " Kids, Baxter here. This was debated long before Odyssey left Earth. "

: 050—01

INT. AEROFOX

Clarke nods in vindication as Baxter continues.

VFX

: 050—02

BAXTER (COMM VOICE) " You think you know more than the scientists who studied this for decades? "

: 051—01

INT. ASTROBUG, COCKPIT

Corey returns to business and starts flipping switches.

: 051—02

BAXTER " Proxima b is tidally locked. Geoglyphs are a by-product. Nothing more. Let’s get back to work. "

: 051—03

COREY " She’s right. Aligning trajectory to access the primary node. "

VFX

: 051—04

CLARKE (ON SCREEN) " Copy that. We’ll drop Sat C and park in an L-One Halo. We can monitor your progress from there. (sweetly) And Jim... I love you. "

VFX

: 052—01

INT. AEROFOX

Onscreen, Corey is embarrassed by the display of affection.

VFX

: 052—02

COREY (ON SCREEN) " I love you too, babe. AstroBug out. "

: 052—03

Listening in, Dyson simulates vomiting. Clarke looks wistfully at her family photo.

: 052—04

CLARKE (smiling) " Including my dad. "

: 052—04

CLARKE " If the Captain’s right, everyone should be awake by the time the ship gets back here. "

: 052—06

DYSON " Yep. Including your dad. "
